Intriguing Justice has been served
This man paid $145,000 in rent for an apartment he didn't live in just to freeze time and catch his wife's killer.
In 1999, Satoru Takaba's wife, Namiko, had her life taken in their apartment.
The police had no solid leads, and the case went cold.
Usually, families move out and try to forget. But Satoru refused.
He believed that one day, technology would catch up to the killer.
So, he kept the lease.
For 26 years, he paid the rent every single month on that empty, silent apartment.
He kept the bloodstains on the floor. He kept the footprints. He turned the room into a time capsule, waiting for science to improve.
And in late 2025, his investment finally paid off.
Police returned to the apartment and used modern DNA technology to analyze the preserved bloodstains that had been sitting there for two decades.
They found a match.
The DNA belong to Kumiko Yasufuku, Satoru’s own high school classmate.
It turns out, she had held a grudge for decades because Satoru had rejected her romantic advances back in school.

AITAH for eating enough ravioli for four people?
My girlfriend and I have what I would have considered to be the perfect relationship. We moved in together in January, and I thought it was going to be a dream. We love each other. We have similar hobbies. We are both obsessed with our dogs. Living with my best friend who is also my partner felt like a no-brainer.
However, since the move in we have had our first real disagreement, and we can't seem to resolve it. Yesterday it became our first real fight. My girlfriend thinks I eat too much.
When we first moved in we went shopping together. I bought an 18 egg carton, and she thought that was too many, and I joked it wasn't enough. She said okay, she'll just have to bake something. She was shocked by how much we spent, and I reminded her that we are two people now and paid for all the groceries. On my day off she saw that I used six eggs to make scrambled eggs for breakfast, and she couldn't believe it. I told her not to worry, that I can run by the store and get more eggs tomorrow if we run out. She thought it was ridiculous to eat six eggs worth of scrambled eggs, but she accepted my promise to buy more eggs.
This has come up several more times. Sunday, I went grocery shopping. I saw a bag of frozen ravioli for sale and bought it on impulse because it looked good. Yesterday, after I got home from work, I was hungry and made the ravioli. I ate all of it.
When my girlfriend got home from work she asked if I wanted to get a pizza for dinner. I said yes. She said I was probably starving, and I said I was hungry but not starving, because I ate ravioli. She asked if it was the big bag from the freezer. I said yes. She said we can just eat the rest of it. I said I ate it all.
She couldn't believe that I ate enough ravioli for four people (bag says serves four). I said I was hungry. She said there was no point getting dinner now. I asked why. She said I couldn't be hungry after eating enough ravioli for four people (she kept saying this over and over again, enough for four people). I said I was. She was upset, and I asked what exactly she wanted me to do or have done. She said I should have just waited for her so we could eat together. I said we can eat together and that I'm hungry.
She didn't believe me. I ended up just going to get the pizza. She told me not to, but I went anyway. I got her favorite pizza (spinach alfredo) and mine (regular with onions and jalapeno). She ate her pizza, but she also said she was upset that I was "forcing myself to eat to prove a point" and that she just wants me to stop being so "greedy and impatient." She said she wants to share meals with me like a normal couple. She said we should have been able to split one pizza.
I just don't get it. If I'm hungry and there is food, I am going to eat. If there is something she wants to save, tell me. I won't eat that. But I will eat something. I'm not going to go hungry. Am I an ass for that?
Answers: I keep answering questions, and people keep asking them again. Maybe my responses are invisible.
I am 6'2", 192lbs, and my job is very physical (sometimes). I run with our dogs a lot and I work out a lot. I am not fat. Most of my weight is muscle.
We do not have shared finances. When I buy food it's me paying for it. I try to go to the grocery store twice a week, so I buy most of the food. Since I eat way more than her, this feels fair to me.

Do most Americans actually flush their toilet paper?
Coming from Latin America, I'm used to the 'trash bin rule' to avoid plumbing disasters. The US approach seems like a dream in comparison, but is it really universal? Are there any regions or older buildings where you're still expected to throw it away instead of flushing?

Looking for a man to relocate to TN and start a mildly feral domesticated life together
ISO: Man willing to relocate to Middle Tennessee with me and build a peaceful, slightly feral domestic life.
Important geographic note: TN is non-negotiable. My family is there and I am not negotiating with geography or genetics on this one.
Shared vision: small house near water, fenced yard, chickens (names TBD but likely unhinged), and a garden we aggressively believe in.
What you receive: legit home-cooked meals, clean laundry that mysteriously returns to drawers, zero criticism for excessive hunting/fishing/garage projects, and someone who thinks Tractor Supply is a date.
Pet policy: must love dogs, must be emotionally prepared to love dogs. Due to catastrophic cat allergy, household cat count must remain at zero. Yes this is a loss. We grieve together and move on.
Requirements: honest, kind, not an axe murderer, and willing to live near my extended family without panic.
Bonus points: handy, enjoys bonfires, accepts that at least one chicken will outrank us socially.

All fines should be a percentage of the offender’s net worth
You get a speeding ticket. You have to pay $250. That’s going to hurt. You’re going to think twice about speeding again. If Elon Musk gets the same $250 speeding ticket, he doesn’t give a damn. A quick Google search says that on average, his wealth increases by $7,125 every second of every day. The fine is absolutely no deterrent to him whatsoever. Thus the legal code only applies to the poor. Crime is only crime to you if it hurts you to pay for it.
So change the legal code. Instead of a flat $250 fine, the offender has to pay 0.25% of their net worth. If you have $100,000 in the bank, you pay the same $250 fine. It’s a tiny percentage of your net worth, but it’s enough to make you think twice about doing it again. If you’re Elon Musk, the 0.25% fine on your $749B costs you $1,872,500,000. Again, it’s a tiny percentage of his enormous stack. But enough to make him think twice about doing it again.
What’s the moral justification for a $2B speeding ticket? The guy paying that much has gained the most living in our society, under the protections and privileges of its laws, fire departments, freeway systems, etc. If he abuses that society by breaking its laws, he can kick his share back in to extend those protections and privileges to others.
This is the only way to make the law apply equally to everybody.
EDIT: 1) math is hard. That does not negate the premise. 2) People saying that we’d be paying people in debt to commit crimes: have a minimum fine. Next question. (We are not meant to abandon common sense in this scenario)
