My mom uses voice to text for every single thing and doesn't realize her texts are fully incomprehensible until she's getting a ton of messages asking if she's having a stroke

Jazz cama and shower is the new live laugh love

193

u/Artorias_Erebus679 2h ago

Funny enough “cama” is Spanish for bed

So it would be jazz, bed and shower which sort of makes sense for someone to relax lmao

56

u/Moses603 2h ago

My new Hinge prompt response to “a typical Sunday for me includes”: jazz cama and shower

Jazz Bed Running Lake is def a dumb “Native American” name that Hollywood would have thought of in old comedies when they didn’t care about racism.

I'm guessing the first text is meant to be "Just coming, running late" (or something similar?)

I have no idea what "Shower shower" could be.

190

u/Pikachu250 2h ago

"Yes, (comma) running late, in the shower" is what she meant 😭 she says punctuation and emojis out loud and hopes they pop up

34

u/nautika 1h ago

You are a genius for figuring that out

28

u/Chaost 1h ago

She possesses the ability to ask her mom, though, lol.

15

u/nautika 1h ago

Oh I'm an idiot. Lol didn't read who I was responding to

Punctuation works just fine on voice text on my phone. But I definitely have some funny typos sometimes too

I wonder if she’s Latina. When my Mexican mother says “yes” I can totally see a speech-to-text hearing it as “jazz”

“Sorry, sorry”.

Because she’s running late.

That’s my guess.

195

u/weirdpixelcat 3h ago

Could maybe be “sure, sure”?

16

u/JW162000 2h ago

Yeah if you imagine it’s shower pronounced “show”+er, it sounds a bit like a heavy southern US accent saying “sure”

I have never seen that show but I have seen her on America's Got Talent or whatever she's a judge on. One day she was talking about the way she sounds in English and she assured the rest of the people that "I'm much smarter in Spanish!" 😂

(It has been brought to my attention that what I saw was actually from Modern Family. I had no idea. Seriously. I don't watch it.)

98

u/lilmothman456 3h ago

You mean this line that’s definitely from the show you said you don’t watch and not AGT

17

u/Particular_Title42 3h ago

I don't watch the show. I must have seen /heard a clip of it an mistakenly thought it was AGT because that's all I ever see her on.

I'm assuming speech to text mixed with a heavy accent of some kind. "Yes [comma], running late"

7

u/makethislifecount 2h ago

Oh! Yeah this is probably it. Was confused myself. And the “shower” is probably “sure”

→ More replies (2)

16

u/BadCat_ML 3h ago

My guess is a sassy “Yass coming, running late”, then she said shower twice maybe thinking it didn’t go through the first time 🥹

4

u/PiersPlays 2h ago

Initial marble-mouthed dictation "Jus-came-outta-da-shower. Running-late!"

Yelling at her phone to try to correct the conolete fucking mess of a message she just composed by trting to insert the word it missed:"Shower! Shower!"

Final attempt to get her message into the phone correctly without any reflection on whether speaking more clearly might help but with a vague sense that keeping it shorter might help? "jus-came-outta-da-shower!"

12

u/Redditusername2929 3h ago

OMFG the Mr. Bean movie was my fave movie growing up & this scene is so hilarious. Me and my late brother used to quote scenes & always say “Bean” super pronounced like he does. Thank you for posting this gif dude 🫶 Gonna watch it again to relive those memories. He passed a year ago on the 11th so it’s been rough but sometimes all it takes is a random Mr. Bean gif to remind you of the good times get you through it lol

u/SupernaturalPumpkin 58m ago

My favourite is when he shows the painting to the other guy (forgotten his name) and he's screaming bloody murder and trying to basically squeeze himself out the tiny window in horror.

u/Caitee420 54m ago

Sorry for your loss!! Hope it brings you back some good memories!!:)

u/Unlucky-Economy7804 51m ago

Sorry for your loss. Glad you have some Bean to help remind you of good times. I was planning on having "coffee with my grandpa" tomorrow morning (I've got some ashes in a small urn). Maybe I'll watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail too. He got a real kick out of it.

I bet shes been buying the same brand the entire time theyve lived together, he should know what brand they usually get... or just ya know buy whatever.

331

u/theSchrodingerHat 3h ago

Yeah, she’s texting his dad right now that she’s mildly frustrated because he’s been eating the same brand and style his entire life, and now he’s suddenly unsure and needs direction.

139

u/ichosethis 3h ago

I know more than a few people that "always" do something one way until suddenly they've always done it a different way. Always ate store brand sour cream but they were sold out so they got Daisy once 3 weeks ago and now that's the kind they "always" get. How do you not know that they changed it? Why are you acting like this isn't how it's always been? What do you mean, 6 months ago I got mad that you brought home a specific item because they were out of the usual? You're just out to ruin dinner with the way you can't even pay attention to this one thing.

38

u/GiraffesAndGin 2h ago

My mom rearranges where things go in the kitchen every once in a while. She'd tell me and my siblings where something went and make a big commotion about it. Then one day, 4 years later, she'll just...move it. Instead of the cabinet next to the stove, it now goes in the corner.

My dad feels like he is losing his mind. Apparently, she's now rearranging more often.

21

u/Perceptions-pk 2h ago

My mom will having a running stock in her head of where everything is and then be like it’s right there in the cupboard, right there!

Yes where the eff is right there?!? There’s like 12 cupboards drawers

u/Horskr 51m ago

My wife's running stock of where everything is is like a superpower.

The funniest one was she was visiting her parents and I needed a paperclip for something, so I texted her asking if she knew if we had any paperclips anywhere.

She was like "Yeah there is one on the ground next to the back right leg of the couch." So I looked, and sure enough there it was. I sent a picture of it and was like, "okay you can't get annoyed ever when I ask you where something is professor x" lol. She said she saw it when vacuuming and had meant to pick it up after.

u/MatureUsername69 3h ago

Im just confused why OP needs anything clarified. Butter is butter, sour cream is sour cream, there's not exactly a huge variety to either product. Only place you could maybe fuck up is buying salted vs unsalted butter for baking purposes. As far as I can tell, there's 2 dumb people in this screenshot.

37

u/Bitter_Sense_5689 2h ago

The answer is whatever she usually buys. If you need to clarify salted versus unsalted, ask that specifically.

7

u/jld2k6 2h ago

My ex once sent her sister out to grab unsalted butter and she came back with salted, so she left with the unsalted butter and returned it and came back with the exact same kind of unsalted butter again lol. She was a huge stoner and thought she didn't need to write it down, especially after messing it up the first time

29

u/phdemented 3h ago

u/2ChicksAtTheSameTime 2h ago

Yup. So many people here saying "what's the big deal?" or "If you get home and it's not what she wanted, that's on her."

Life is so much more complicated than that.

Clearly OP knows their mom well enough to know that buying whatever will be technically right, but it will just create more commotion once they get home. It won't be like "here's your butter and sour cream, YOU deal with it now" ... it won't be the end of it for them.

Salted butter and Daisy sour cream it is

299

u/ThePuppyIsWinning 3h ago

Daisy, definitely, but if it's Kerrygold, then unsalted butter, otherwise either. (Kerrygold's unsalted is cultured butter and their salted is not, and their cultured butter is more...buttery tasting?)

The cheapest kind, for dairy products, cheap is good. It’s all the same from basically the closest farm that way anyway.

Unless you specifically want Irish or from the Swiss alps and it has to be the genuine article for some absurd reason and you want to insist on paying more for that.

u/MsThrilliams 3h ago

Just make sure you know imperial is margarine and not butter as far as cheap butter

8

u/NightmareJoker2 3h ago

Does it say butter on the label but isn’t butter? And there’s no class action lawsuit about it? No way.

(I’m German, we don’t have that here. But we have imported Irish Kerrygold, and it’s cheap right now, because they set the price too high the past two years, nobody bought it and it’s going bad by the truck loads, oh, the irony)

7

u/MsThrilliams 3h ago

Its in the butter section but not labeled as it. Its in stick form so it looks like what people think of as butter. For me, I started buying real butter for cooking eggs in but would use margarine to save money on other things where it didnt make as much difference.

Just regular butter sticks and a basic tub of sour cream. Looks like she doesn't care what brand or she'd specify. I'd say 4 sticks salted butter and a 8 or 16 oz container of sour cream is the norm. If she's your mom you probably see what she usually gets since you see it in her fridge.

→ More replies (4)

609

u/HardcoreParkourMike 3h ago

If you don't live with your mom and don't know what kind she would want, then it's understandable. But if you still live at home with her then you should know what kind of butter and sour cream is usually in your fridge, that I'm assuming you eat.

I can tell you from experience that living with someone who's incapable of knowing what stuff we usually buy or just making a decision on their own is infuriating on its own.

14

u/lcw32 2h ago

Yeah I agree because sorry the above message would piss me off. The kind you see when you open up the goddamn fridge 15 times a day 🙄. She would've specified if she needed a specific brand or composition.

157

u/pandataxi 3h ago

So true! My husband cannot go to the grocery store alone without calling me at least 3 times. Drives me absolutely insane

62

u/TiltedLama 3h ago

Are you serious? How hard is it for a (I assume) grown-ass man to read a grocery list? Does he need help to tie his shoes too?

77

u/Qaeta 3h ago

Usually this comes as a result of the requestor having specific brand preferences vs the shopper not really caring about brand and just seeing "butter". If the shopper has been burned by bringing, for example, the wrong butter home before, they'll be a lot more paranoid about fucking it up on other items, and need more information to ensure compliance.

Personally, I think if someone cares about brand that much, they should be including that information in the shopping list. My shopping lists always include brand (if I care) in addition to minimum quantity, and I'm the one doing the shopping too. Can't imagine giving someone else a list without that info and then getting mad about what they bring back.

22

u/greendookie69 2h ago

This is the correct take on this matter.

15

u/z3nnysBoi 2h ago

Yeah I don't do this out of laziness, I do it out of intense anxiety lol

10

u/eriffodrol 2h ago

exactly, don't ask for "some" of something and then complain it's not the quantity you didn't specify

10

u/Mighty-Lobster 1h ago

If I could up-vote you twice, I would.

This is exactly it.

The eternal argument with my wife is that she won't believe that I don't read minds. For us this isn't specifically about groceries. We both know what groceries to get. But in other contexts, she seems legitimately perplexed that I did not do a thing that she never once asked me to do. What's worse, she seems just as perplexed that she doesn't read minds either. She regularly ignores what I say in English because she imagines that what I really want must something different from what I said.

6

u/Qaeta 1h ago

I mean, I'm a woman, but neurodivergent and I hate this so much. People trying to divine what I mean when in reality I say exactly what I mean, no more, no less. And I will never understand why people have this psychotic aversion to answering clarifying questions.

One of my friends let it slip that her husband straight up does not know how to wash his clothes. Like he has just never used and has no clue how to operate a washer & dryer. It came up because she was on a work trip for a couple weeks and came back to see he and their kids were wearing week old dirty clothes still.

There are a lot of aggressively incompetent, maladjusted grown-ass adults out there.

As someone in the grocery business for 10 years… You don’t wanna know. The amount of grown men that have seemingly never been in a grocery store especially the produce section is INSANE. Not knowing what green onions or a zucchini is. I get a lot of “is this guy serious?” questions.

Go easy on em though. Most dudes I’ve ran into that are obviously not the usual shopper are trying their best and want to be right. Some legitimately stressed out. Sometimes they are so noticeably stressed and confused I tell them “just give me the list I gotchu” then do it myself.

I’m curious if subconsciously he / she will buy the brands their mom uses. They should know from basic observations well visiting her as well.

12

u/hollowspryte 3h ago

I don’t always buy the same brands for things like this

This is the answer. I’m not getting the “I don’t understand your text” vibes here. I’m getting “you’re an adult in this household who consumes butter and sour cream, use your brain” vibes. A passive aggressive queen

Right. I am surprised I had to scroll so far to get a reasonable response. Like you should know the brand preference, assuming you’ve lived with your family your whole life (or at least 18 years).

Some people want others to lead them by the nose through absolutely every single thing they do.

It's terrible.

It depends. Like we have two types of butter that we use in our house. If someone told me to get butter because we're out, I'd want to know both? Or just a specific one? I don't want to get two of the same one and we're still out of the other.

I pound of butter and a container of sour cream doesn’t seem that difficult to me.

u/Crayzeemike 40m ago

I’m thinking more along the lines of salted or unsalted butter and what size container of sour cream. Though if OP lives with their mother they should probably know what she normally gets

What do you normally see in your house? That kind.

23

u/Salt-Library4330 2h ago

My wife keeps salted, unsalted and spreadable butter in the fridge… I would default to the spread though cause I’m my own man

9

u/Snip3 1h ago

I think if someone's asking for butter and doesn't specify you should get unsalted sticks because they're the most versatile

IF you live with her, you should already know the answers to this question..

If not, dealer's choice and if she's unhappy.. that's on her.

u/bindersweat 3h ago

you cant pick out your own butter and sour cream?

59

u/sierrabravo1984 this is not yellow damn it! 3h ago

Some people are weirdly picky about that. I'll use whatever butter, my wife will only eat land o lakes "because it tastes better.". Tastes the same to me.

23

u/mencival 3h ago

Kerrygold tastes different imho

7

u/Intelligent-Web-8293 3h ago

u/baby_armadillo 3h ago

When you live with someone picky, however, you know what they’re picky about. I bet if your wife asked you to pick up butter, you would know exactly what butter to grab.

13

u/jocularnelipot 3h ago

This is exactly it. Presuming the person is picky AND ALSO lax about specifying is so wild to me. If they’re picky, either you should absolutely know already, or they would have specified when they gave the request. Otherwise, it can be assumed you should know or it doesn’t matter, and in either case freaking try, as an assumably capable human.

13

u/TarzanKitty 3h ago

This kid is old enough to drive. They have spent at least 16 years going into their mother’s fridge, multiple times per day. If mom was weirdly picky. OP would probably be aware of that.

11

u/Useful-Space-Ranger 3h ago

Yes, my husband is also very particular about his sour cream. I'm a generic girl, but he has to have daisy

God I went to the store once to get myself something and my dad asked me to get chicken pot pies. Never said what kind, so I grabbed one that looked good... and he got pissy at me about it. Be specific then, asshole.

7

u/FinallyArt 2h ago

so whatever is on sale / cheapest? They are pretty generic items.

8

u/FinancialAide3383 2h ago

Im kind of with your mom here. Just do it. Do it.

8

u/Alternative-Sail-453 1h ago

its your house, what does the butter and sour cream usually look like that sits in your refrigerator? Buy those

6

u/pacificjunction 2h ago

I mean, I wouldn’t feel the need to specify which kind either were you born yesterday OP?

I think your mom’s right. You just needed to get a pack of the store brand butter salted or unsalted and a tub of plain sour cream. She gave you the thumbs up meaning you can do this dumbass.

There really isn't a "kind" typically. If your family typically uses stick butter then just get that. If I want something low-fat or sugar free I would probably specify that. Asking what kind shouldn't have short-circuited your mom though

5

u/natman102 2h ago

She doesn’t care what kind bro it’s not that deep.

4

u/Small_Dong_214 2h ago

OP has a dependent personality disorder (DPD) and mom is obviously allowing her grown child to utilize critical thinking skills to make the final decision on what kind of butter and SC.

If your mom usually prefers specific brand of products, you were in the right to ask and she should've answered you. But if she never cared, you deserved the flames in the comments lol, just get whatever brands.
