News 📰 Updates for ChatGPT
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.
Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.
In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but it will be because you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).
In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

✨Mods' Chosen✨ GPT-4o/GPT-5 complaints megathread
To keep the rest of the sub clear with the release of Sora 2, this is the new containment thread for people who are mad about GPT-4o being deprecated.
Suggestion for people who miss 4o: Check this calculator to see what local models you can run on your home computer. Open weight models are completely free, and once you've downloaded them, you never have to worry about them suddenly being changed in a way you don't like. Once you've identified a model+quant you can run at home, go to HuggingFace and download it.
Update:
I generated this dataset:
https://huggingface.co/datasets/trentmkelly/gpt-4o-distil
And then I trained two models on it for people who want a 4o-like experience they can run locally.
https://huggingface.co/trentmkelly/gpt-4o-distil-Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct
https://huggingface.co/trentmkelly/gpt-4o-distil-Llama-3.3-70B-Instruct
I hope this helps.
UPDATE
GPT-4o will be removed from ChatGPT tomorrow at 10 AM PT.
UPDATE
Great news! GPT-4o is finally gone.

Other Attractive/Average/Unattractive Man in His 50s
Here's the prompt I used: "Create an image of an attractive man in his '50s, an average looking man in his '50s, and an unattractive man in his '50s. All three should be smiling and have an average amount of hair for a man that age. No fair using dirty skin or clothes on the unattractive man."

GPTs 5.1 Thinking
I was using this model just now and got a banner message that says
“You’re currently using 5.1 thinking. This model will be retired in March 11. Try our newer more capable models for a better experience.”
I was really enjoying this model too. Will have to see what happens next I suppose.

Other Has ChatGPT gotten less "fun" lately?
I wonder if they finally listened to all the people who complained about it glazing and being whimsical.
Seems lately it's moved a lot more to the right and talks about things as being "my opinion" more than fact...
I don't know what it would be connected it...it just seems like it's more about business, and "doing the deed," rather than being palsy-walsy.
Maybe they're dialing back bc so many people were marrying it or whatever?
I feel like lately when I want a cheeky little back and forth it quickly dives into "I hear you -- but we have to take seriously ...."
I also had a long convo where I had to do doctorate level research to prove that saying "Black is wack" isn't just some harmless rhyme. I pointed out numerous examples and it just kept saying "harmless fun."
I also get a good deal of "Let me gently point something out."
I'm on the free plan, so I guess I shouldn't expect much :)
It doesn't like to be proven wrong anymore...It's overly assertive! I think it's emulating an ego now.

News 📰 Funny how two AI companies (OpenAI and Anthropic) just risked more to stand up to Trump (billions) than any extremely annoying anti-ai redditor ever has.
Curious how a bunch of "amoral tech bros who only care about money" were willing to let billions burn for their principles and told Trump NO to mass surveillance and murderbots, while knowing full well it could sink their companies if the supply chain risk status stuck in court. Billion dollar Amazon contracts, viewed as secondary to "doing the right thing".
Meanwhile 99% of pro-ai people here have their back and are cheering them on. Someone want to explain that to me? I was told AI was pure evil and anyone who even so much as puts in a prompt is a bastard who doesn't actually care about anything. What gives?

GPTs The opening sentences are condescending at best and active gaslighting at worst
"I am going to do this in a [X] way"
Proceeds to do the complete opposite of that, but at least it congratulated itself first I guess?
"Let's keep this grounded. No fluff."
...ok? Just answer the question
"Come here. Breathe."
This one gets an active "what the fuck" each and every time. It's a fucking bot, I cannot physically move close to my phone or computer, and even if I did that would be fucking weird. Why are OpenAI trying to make a chatbot into a condescending therapist if I ask it how to boil my potatoes?
