Discussion What’s a pokemon that you loved in the 2D era, but that love fell off during the 3D era because its 3D model was just that bad?
A dastardly amount of pokemon did NOT get treated well in the transition to 3D, but one that sticks out a lot to me is Nidoking.
One of my favorite pokemon growing up. Always used this guy in FR/LG playthroughs. Just looked so menacing and cool. But MAN, he does NOT look good in 3D, and when I got older and Pokemon permanently transitioned to the 3D sprites, I just found myself slowly and slowly losing that appreciation for Nidoking. Never really had to urge to use him anymore, and kinda just stopped thinking about him altogether.
Idk if anyone has had a similar experience with any of their childhood favorites, but lmk if any of you have. Would love to hear.

Discussion Just realized new poke fans will hate FRLG
Worst part about older games is easily HMs. This game has them in droves. Not the most required but still. There hasn't been a need for HM slaves in over 15 years.
Than you have the might pre physical special split. This is going to screw up a lot of people.
Old XP share. No dark types.
No crobat. Not that it matters but I miss him.

Discussion PSA to players experiencing FireRed and LeafGreen tomorrow. Your game isn't glitched.
There will probably be a number of new players tomorrow who haven't played a classic Pokémon game before. Just to let you know, the screen shaking is perfectly normal. Your Pokémon is just poisoned and is taking damage. It will faint. Be sure to stock up on antidotes so you can heal in the overworld.

Discussion If this is representative of the game's visuals I am cautiously optimistic
Low image quality aside, the last few games have looked pretty rough so I am cautiously optimistic about this game looking good
what really got my attention was the lighting on the Slugmas in the caves
that said I wouldn't be surprised if the game ends up looking worse and these are just some of the nicer areas, plus we don't know anything about performance yet

Discussion The Miku crossover reveals which games Nintendo considers mainline game
Just a neat thing i noticed. I know people debated about whether Legends were a spin offs or not, but I haven’t seen anyone talk about Lets go

Discussion Can we just admit that Pokemon, as a whole, has always been a bit lacking in terms of visuals for the mainline games?
Like yeah, I know graphics aren't everything, and that being fun is the most important thing for a game and all that jazz. But if you actually played other RPGs it's pretty obvious that Pokemon has always been lagging behind in the looks department, there's GBA RPGs out there, Golden Sun, Shining Soul, Soul of Mana that genuinely look on par with what Game Freak was putting out by the end of the DS era.

Discussion Are Megastone Ranked Rewards a horrible idea?
Being absolutely serious here, who thinks this is actually a good thing? Most people don't even want to go anywhere near ranked in pokemon games. And a lot of people won't even get the games until much later on. Why would they even consider the idea of locking megastones behind ranked seasonal rewards? Absolutely disgusting move on their part.

Discussion Why does Flygon have so many fans?
I've noticed a long time ago that people are really hyping up Flygon, but honestly, I don't understand why. I've never been interested in this Pokémon, but I really hoped it would become popular. And many are also really looking forward to its Mega, which is perhaps the most anticipated Mega. So if any of you are fans of this Pokémon (I'm sure you are), could you explain why you love him?

Discussion It takes less than 7 minutes to run the circumference of the map in Pokemon Legends ZA.
I’ve tested this out a few times now and uninterrupted by obstacles and including the time it takes to pass through certain wild zones you can run the entire circumference of the map in as short as 6 minutes and 19 seconds or less.
That in and of itself isn’t much of an issue, however I still havnt found the content rich activities in the game and I’ve spent nearly 25 hours in it since Sunday. The city definitely feels big during the first few hours of you playing, however somewhere around ten hours in or so you realize you’ve already explored all the districts and are really just stuck in a battle simulator-esk gameplay loop in a small city with ugly empty buildings and little extra content to do. The lack of exploration in this game is astonishing. Don’t get me wrong the real time battling and music are amazing, but that’s most of the substance you’re going to find here.
Where’s all the dense rich content that was anticipated to balance the fact that the entire map is one city? This definitely is not a bad game but it’s really lacking in things to do once you get past the newness of it all.

Discussion Some people thought i was cherry picking...
Hi, I'm the guy from the post: “Sprites VS 3D models”.
Many in that post told me that the examples I had chosen were the same ones everyone always chose.
Others, on the other hand, said that the 8th gen models had fixed several things I was complaining about (which is not true, the ones that really fixed many things, though not all, were the 9th gen ones).
And others said it was unfair to compare 5th gen sprites with 6th gen sprites.
Well, that's ok, this time I have done the examples with a friend comparing the 8th generation models (Sword and shield as they are the main pokemon line) with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation sprites.
The criteria I have followed for a Pokémon to appear here has been: -It has lost its color, making it become much, much duller. -It has lost its personality by giving it a bad iddle animation. If these two cases happen at the same time, they have basically ruined the Pokémon.
Don't worry, in a few weeks I'll do a post on 3D models that are a hell of a lot better than sprites. The comparison will be with the 9th generation models since, in my opinion, they are the best models we have ever had.
I just want to say that if you like 3D models I think it's perfect, I'm not invalidating your tastes. I'm just making a comparison because I find it interesting.

Discussion Sprites VS 3D models. What do you guys think?
I recently beat a 2nd generation Pokémon game for the first time and was amazed by its sprites.
I'm a Pokémon player who mostly plays older games (1st through 5th not because i dont like newer games but because i can't ) and I've always liked the sprites better than the 3D models of the 6th, 7th and 8th generation.
It's true that in the 9th generation they improved them a lot and fixed so many others, but I still prefer the sprites, I think they work better.
I think the vast majority of the 3D models could beat the sprites if they gave them a better iddle animation or if they had mini animations that let you see the personality of the Pokémon.
In 6th generation the vast majority of 3D models are boring, with dull colors and lack of personality, but I'd like to know what your opinion is.
There is a Youtube channel called: “Mr. Omnistone” that has released a video and many shorts talking about AND fixing Pokémon 3D models, I highly recommend it.

Discussion And every one has an end…
After 28 years and almost my entire life, I think it’s time to throw in the towel. Pokemon isn’t made for me anymore. And the passion just isn’t there. Time to go back to Johto and settle down.

Discussion Does anyone else think Typhlosion deserves a Mega too?
So with the Mega Dimension DLC having just released, it looks like Legends: Z-A is “done” as in we probably won’t see any more content for the game. And, by extension, any new Megas. Obviously, there are a lot of Pokémon who ultimately missed out on Megas (Flygon’s probably the most surprising). However, the one I’m probably most disappointed about is Typhlosion, who is now the only member of the Johto trio to not have a Mega. In fact, worse still, it will be the ONLY starter from Gens 1-3 (AKA the original Gameboy games) to not have a Mega.
Personally, I find this disappointing as traditionally, when one starter receives a new power-up of some kind, the rest in the trilogy tend to follow suit in a later game or DLC. For example, Blaziken first received a Mega in X/Y, but the other two members of the Hoenn starters ultimately received Megas in OR/AS. Similarly, Charizard first received a Gigantamax form in Sw/Sh, but the other two Kanto starters ultimately also got Gigantamax forms in the Isle of Armor DLC.
However, what makes this even arguably more unfair is that, unlike these situation, where just one starter from a trilogy is selected to get an upgrade of some kind (even if the others from their respective trilogies got their respective upgrades later), BOTH of the other Johto starters got Megas in Z-A, meaning that Typhlosion will be the only one without one. This is the only time that two starters from a trilogy have gotten either upgrades or new forms without the third also getting the same upgrade. Even in Legends: Arceus, only one starter from three separate trios (Johto, Unova, and Alola) were selected to get Regional forms, and even in Legends: Z-A, it was just Emboar who was chosen to represent the Unova trilogy. If maybe for Legends: Z-A’s starter trio, they swapped out Totodile with Poplio, that might have felt more “fair” to all the respective starter trios, but ultimately, as it is right now, it feels weird for Typhlosion to be the only one without a Mega in my opinion.
Speaking of Legends: Arceus, though, some people might argue that, as Typhlosion was a starter in that game, and ultimately received a Hisuian form, it’s already had its day/update and giving it a Mega would be unfair. While I do get this argument, I feel like GameFreak has shown that it is not uncommon for popular Pokémon (especially starters, which I would argue Typhlosion is) to receive multiple gimmicks/updates across several games. In fact, I’ve included a small chart of all the Pokémon who received more than one gimmick/update here:
- Venusaur - received both a Mega Evolution in X/Y and a Gigantamax form in Sw/Sh DLC
- Charizard - received both two Mega Evolutions in X/Y and a Gigantamax form in Sw/Sh
- Blastoise - received both a Mega Evolution in X/Y and a Gigantamax form in Sw/Sh DLC
- Pikachu line - received both a Regional form for Raichu and three exclusive Z-Moves (two for Pikachu and one for Alolan Raichu) in S/M, a Gigantamax form in Sw/Sh, and two Mega Evolutions in PLZA DLC (yes I get that Pikachu is kinda the brand’s mascot so they’re probably an outlier LOL)
- Diglett line - received both Regional forms for both members in the line in S/M and Convergent species for both members in the line in S/V
- Meowth line - received both Regional variants for both members in the line in S/M, a Regional form for Meowth with a new, alternate evolution in Sw/Sh, and a Gigantamax form in the same game
- Slowbro - received both a Mega Evolution in X/Y and a Regional form in Sw/Sh DLC
- Gengar - received both a Mega Evolution in X/Y and a Gigantamax form in Sw/Sh
- Eevee - received both an exclusive Z-Move in S/M and a Gigantamax form in Sw/Sh
- Snorlax - received both an exclusive Z-Move in S/M and a Gigantamax form in Sw/Sh
- Greninja - received both a unique “Ash-Greninja” form in S/M and a Mega Evolution in PLZA (granted, Ash-Greninja seems to have been retired, but I suppose we’ll just have to see if it shows up in Champions or not)
- Decidueye - received both an exclusive Z-Move in S/M and a Regional form in PLA
Now, some of you will notice that nearly every member on this list is from Kanto, which Typhlosion is not. However, I’d argue that the two exceptions to this rule, Greninja and Decidueye, are popular starters, which shows that it’s absolutely not unheard of for popular non-Kantonian starters to receive more than one gimmick/update (including Typhlosion’s fellow Hisuian starter, Decidueye), and therefore Typhlosion having a Hisuian form IMO shouldn’t preclude it from also receiving a Mega along with its Johto starter buddies.
I’d also argue that giving Typhlosion a Mega Evolution alongside its Hisuian form wouldn’t risk retreading any ground, as compared to other gimmicks/updates such as Mega Evolutions and Gigantamaxes (which share a fair bit of design ques, many Gigantamaxes could pass as Mega Evolutions and vice versa), Mega Evolution and Regional forms often have very different design philosophies. From what I can tell, Mega Evolution generally tends to take what is already there and add to it, a Mega Evolution is kinda just MORE of the existing Pokémon. Regional forms, on the other hand, often take the Pokémon and instead do something different with it, and I’d argue this is most apparent with the Hisuian starters. All three tend to take what the original was and, well, do the opposite! Samurott goes from being a noble warrior to a sinister one who plays dirty, and Decidueye goes from being a more supernatural Ghost-type Pokémon to a more physical Fighting-type one. And Typhlosion? It goes from being a highly aggressive “volcano” to a calm, (mostly) docile psychopomp, purifying souls and guiding them to the afterlife. That is to say, I feel that a theoretical Mega Typhlosion wouldn’t necessarily have much overlap in design philosophy with the already existing Hisuian Typhlosion, at least not nearly enough for a Mega to feel redundant or repetitive.
So yeah, those were just my thoughts as a BIG fan of both Typhlosion and Mega Evolution (can ya tell LOL?)! Obviously, though, I know we’re not getting a Mega Typhlosion in Legends: Z-A and its DLC, but, do ya think there’s any chance we might see it pop up in a future game, if one were to include Mega Evolution? The one I was most curious about was the SPOILER leaked MMORPG that apparently includes Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Kitakami. Given that there’s a good chance Megas may show up in that game (considering both that Mega Evolution was included in the last Kanto game GameFreak made, and was HEAVILY featured in their last Hoenn game), IMO if they were to want to complete the Mega Johto-starter set, it would probably be the perfect opportunity. Further, this game (if it happens at all) would likely be a few years away, and at that point, we would have likely had three sets of Legends starters total, leaving a nice gap since we got Hisuian Typhlosion.
So what do ya think? Would you have preferred Typhlosion to have gotten a Mega? Do you think it deserved to get one along with Meganium and Feraligatr, or do you think the Hisuian form is enough for Typhlosion? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Discussion Has anyone else been completely turned off from buying Z-A, and buying a Switch 2 to play it?
The news of a paid DLC plus the fact that to get some highly anticipated megas you are forced to play ranked, I just can't reconcile this with my play style. I was going to buy myself a Switch 2 just for Legends Z-A so now Nintendo has lost a sale as well as not buying Z-A.
I'm so disappointed, I was so hyped for this game...

Discussion Pokemon games NEED VOICE ACTING.
I just got home from picking up the game so I just received chikorita and omg do these games NEED voice actors. Like we all know the reason they dont, Nintendo doesn't want to pay for it. But wow is it bad. It was fine on the ds and even for the first couple of switch games but ever since Scarlet and Violet it's really apparent that Gamefreak needs to get with the times. Any way I'm off to play Legends Z-A I just felt like ranting.
